Crock Pot Ham Recipe Ingredients
- Bone In Ham: a fully cooked bone-in ham yields the best flavor and works best for this recipe. It can either be a spiral ham, whole ham or smoked ham.
- Apple Juice: be sure to use 100% juice and not a cocktail blend. You can also use pineapple juice or orange juice.
- Honey: If you prefer you can use maple syrup, but I really love the flavor of honey paired with the ham.
- Salted Butter: you can also use unsalted butter.
How to Cook a Ham in a Crock Pot
- Pat the ham dry. If you are not using a spiral cut ham score the ham in ½ inch diagonal cuts at least ¼ inch down. This allows the fat to render more easily and the honey butter mixture to flavor the ham more.
- Place the ham in the bottom of the slow cooker flat side down.
- Pour the apple juice into the crock pot.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and melted butter. Pour the mixture over the top of the ham coating the top and sides. Use a pastry brush, if needed, to spread it out all over the ham.
- Cook the ham on low temperature for 4-5 hours, basting every hour, until the internal temperature has reached 140°F.
- Serve with all your favorite sides an enjoy!

Tips for Fully Cooked Ham in Crock Pot
- Use a bone-in ham for maximum flavor.
- Double check the size of your crock pot. Don't buy a ham that is too big for your slow cooker.
- If the lid don't fit on your crockpot, place a piece of aluminum foil over the top.
- Cook only on low heat. Cooking on high will dry out the ham.
- Don't overcook the ham. Overcooking will make the ham dry and tough. Cook the ham only to 140°F for safe consumption.
- To plan accordingly, estimate to serve ½ pound of bone-in ham per person.
- If your ham includes a glaze packet, you can use it for something else or discard it.
- Save the ham bone! Use it to make my Split Pea Soup!
