    Substitution Suggestions

    • Fresh Green Beans: I recommend only using fresh green beans because they yield the best texture. However, in a pinch you can use frozen green beans. Increase the heat to 425°F and add the grated cheese half way through the bake time.
    • Olive Oil: Any neutral oil will work, canola oil, vegetable oil, grapeseed oil or avocado oil are all good options.
    • Fresh Grated Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated cheese is the best to use. It melts easier and creates the best crispy goodness. The cheese in the green can will work, but it won't have the best texture.
    • Garlic Powder: If you like you can use fresh garlic, one clove or 1 teaspoon minced will work. I like to use garlic powder because it is less likely to burn and get bitter.

This green bean recipe is a great way to add a lot of flavor to your regular green beans. A great side to serve any night of the week or add to any holiday table.

How to Make Oven Roasted Green Beans

    1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or grease with nonstick cooking spray or a little olive oil.
    2. If needed, trim the ends of the beans. Your grocery store might sell them already trimmed and ready to use which makes prep time even shorter.
    3. In a large bowl toss the green beans with the olive oil, grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and black pepper.

    Storing Roasted Green Beans

Store any leftover garlic parmesan green beans in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Reheat the green beans in the microwave until warmed through. Or use an air fryer to reheat and keep the beans crispy.

Tips for Garlic Parmesan Green Beans

    • Use parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy clean up.
    • Toss the green beans and all other ingredients in a bag or bowl and not directly on the pan. Combining all the ingredients beforehand ensures that all the green beans are evenly coated.
    • Don't overcrowd the pan too much. Lay the beans in a single layer that way the beans will roast and not steam. If the green beans steam they will be soft and soggy.
    • For a little kick, add some red pepper flakes. It's delicious!

Garlic Parmesan Roasted Green Beans FAQs

Can you roast frozen green beans?

Yes! Increase the oven temperature to 425°F. Place the frozen beans tossed with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a single layer on a greased or lined sheet pan. Roast for 15 minutes and add fresh grated parmesan cheese. Roast for an additional 10-15 minutes. The beans won't be as crisp as using fresh, but they will still be delicious.

Should green beans be blanched before roasting?

No need to blanch green beans before roasting. The oven will cook them to perfection.

Why are my green beans not crispy?

Do not overcrowd your sheet pan when roasting green beans. The veggies need to be in a single layer so there is enough room for air to circulate around them and make them crispy. If they are overcrowded and overlapping the beans will steam instead and become soggy and soft.
