I owe all my new air fryer recipes to my little sister. She gave me my air fryer for my birthday a few years back. Thank you, Sara! I have since fell in love with this appliance. I seriously think I have an appliance obsession! This appliance has been awesome for making these sweet potatoes.

My kids were never really big fans of sweet potatoes. They won't eat them at Thanksgiving when they are filled with sugar and marshmallows, but they will eat these ones! They eat them all and ask for them all the time!

Ingredients for Crispy Air Fryer Cinnamon Sweet Potatoes

    • Olive Oil-Any oil works with this recipe. Coconut oil, canola oil, avocado oil are all good options too.
    • Sweet Potatoes-the most common and available type is the Beauregard. Any other type of sweet potato will probably work but I haven't tested with them.
    • Salt
    • Ground Cinnamon-If you like you can use other seasonings too. Pumpkin pie spice, rosemary, all spice, thyme, garlic and onion are all good seasonings that I think marry well with sweet potatoes.
    • Maple Syrup or Honey for Dipping, optional

Tips for Cutting Sweet Potatoes Into Cubes

    1. Peel the potato first and trim the ends.
    2. Use a very sharp chef's or santuko knife. Dull knifes give you the risk of cutting yourself, which is not what you want!
    3. If the potato is too hard for your knife, you can microwave it for a minute or two. This will take some of the hardness away and make the cutting easier.
    4. Cut the potatoes lengthwise into 3 or 4 depending on the size of your potatoes. Then cut those pieces into 3-4 strips. Then cut the strips into ½ inch cubes.

How to Make Cinnamon Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer

    1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, so it's hot and ready once you are done prepping the ingredients.
    2. Next, prepare the sweet potatoes. Peel and cube the potatoes so they are no bigger than a ½ inch cube.

    1. Add the cubed sweet potatoes, olive oil, salt and cinnamon to a bowl. Toss the potatoes to evenly coat them.
    2. Now add the seasoned sweet potatoes to the air fryer basket and air fry for 10 minutes. Promptly shake the basket of potatoes and then air fry for another 10 minutes.
    • Sweet potatoes half way cooked in air fryer basket.
    • Finished sweet potatoes in air fryer basket.
    1. Check the potatoes at this time. If you can easily pierce them with a fork they are done. If they are still a touch hard, continue to air fry them for another 5 minutes.
    2. Serve these delicious sweet potatoes with some pure maple syrup or honey for dipping. So good!

I don't have an air fryer, can I make them in the oven?

Yes! Please try them in the oven. Toss the potatoes, olive oil, salt and cinnamon in a bowl and then spread them evenly onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Roast them in a 400°F oven for 30-35 minutes and until fork tender. Enjoy!

Storing Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes

Storing: Store any leftover sweet potatoes in an air tight container in the fridge.

Reheating: The potatoes can be reheated in the microwave, but they'll be soft. To crisp them back up again, reheat them in a preheated air fryer at 400°F for about 5-7 minutes until they are warmed through and crisp.

FAQs About Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes

Should you soak sweet potatoes before air frying?

It is not necessary to soak the potatoes beforehand. However, you can rinse them in cold water to rid of any starch and then dry them well. This will ensure extra crispiness.

How much heat and time should you put a sweet potato in an air fryer?

For whole sweet potatoes that are medium in size and have been pierced by a fork multiple times, cook them at 375°F for 35-45 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender.

Why are my sweet potato fries soggy in the air fryer?

To ensure the sweet potatoes get crispy, don't overcrowd the air fryer basket. Shake or turn the potatoes half way through the cook time so they can all get crispy. Lastly, make sure the potatoes are nice and dry before adding the oil and seasonings. Too much moisture will create soggy potatoes.

I hate to say this, but I found it absolutely tasteless, and I tried it twice!!!! The cinnamon did nothing for it whatsoever!! Perhaps I did something wrong, which wouldn't be too unusual!!!

Bummer, I'm sorry they didn't work out. If you like, you can try again and add extra cinnamon if the flavor wasn't pungent enough? Let me know if you do and how they turn out.
