The simplest breakfast that is a family pleaser! Egg In A Hole is toasted bread with a soft egg in the center, fried in some yummy butter and all made in one pan! A perfect fuss free breakfast that the kiddies love!
My kids are obsessed with eggs! They would eat them for breakfast every single day. Busy mornings can put a damper on that, but not with this Egg In A Hole recipe. It's a little twist on the Eggs & Toast that my family loves. A piece of bread with a hole cut and the egg placed in the hole, fried in some butter and boom, breakfast is done. It's so simple and so delicious.
Egg In A Hole Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread, we prefer whole wheat or honey wheat
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon salted butter
- salt and pepper
How To Make The Kid's Favorite Breakfast
- Cut a hole in the bread, using a round cookie cutter, biscuit cutter or even a glass. Make it more fun and use different shapes of cookie cutters!
- Melt the butter in a large flat skillet over medium low heat.
- Add the bread and the centers that are cut out.
- Let the bread cook a minute to start to brown.
- Reduce the heat to low and crack an egg into the holes of the bread. To be safe, you can crack the egg in a bowl first and then slide it into the hole from the bowl. (I never do this, I'm such a rebel!)
- Cook for about 2 minutes until the egg whites are about half way cooked.
- Flip the Egg In A Hole and the bread pieces, cook for another 2 minutes or until you have reached your desired egg doneness. Is that even word?
- Slide them onto your plate and dig in!
As you can see, this recipe is so simple and only has a few steps. Even Chad can make this breakfast! Love you honey! When school is in session, I have a schedule for breakfast, it makes things run smoothly in the morning. There is no whining happening and the kids know what to expect each day. Egg In A Hole is on the schedule at least once, sometimes twice because it really is the kid's favorite breakfast!

My father used to make this breakfast on Sunday mornings many years ago. He called it "Holy yolks". Not sure if he made up that name, but it was a favorite of all 5 of his children.
