Homemade Red Velvet Ice Cream is creamy and tastes just like a cupcake! Super easy to make and will please all the red velvet lovers in your family!

My daughter, Bailee, happens to be in love with red velvet anything! Sadly, she has inherited my allergy to food dyes. So in order to cure her red velvet cravings I needed to get my creative juices flowing and figure out a way to make things red without using artificial food dyes. Thankfully, I follow this wonderful and informational blog, weelicious.com. She uses beets in some of her recipes, and I thought "why not in ice cream too" so I experimented and viola! This ice cream is so creamy and flavorful. It really does taste like a red velvet cupcake and not a beet!

Ingredients to Make Red Velvet Ice Cream

    • 8 oz softened cream cheese
    • 16 oz heavy whipping cream
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 tablespoon heaping unsweetened cocoa powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons pure beet powder

Where can I find pure beet powder?

Whole Foods Co-op or Fresh Thyme Farmers Market grocery store usually has it in the bulk section. Otherwise you can order it online.

How to Make Homemade Red Velvet Ice Cream

Gather all your ingredients and tools. Make sure you read your ice cream maker manual so you know what to have ready when it is time to make the ice cream.

First step, add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth.

Next, add the mix to your ice cream maker and follow your maker's instructions for use.

Once the churning is done, the consistency will be like soft serve ice cream. Place the ice cream in a freezer safe container and freeze for 4 hours and until firm.

You can also use this ice cream to make Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches with Chocolate Sugar Cookies!
