Applesauce

Course: Side Dish, Snack
Servings: 10
Author: Heather

Ingredients

  • 6 pounds apples, any kind works
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ cup honey or brown sugar

Instructions

  • Place chopped apples, water, lemon juice and cinnamon in a large pot. If you don’t have a large enough pot, split it up into two pots evenly.
  • Cover and cook apples on medium heat for about 30 min, stirring often, until apples are soft but not too mushy. (If adding other fruits and vegetables, add them to the pot during this step. Frozen or fresh works great!)
  • Stir in honey or brown sugar and let cool for about 15 min.
  • Place cooked apples in food processor in batches and process until smooth but not too long or it will get a gummy texture. Or you can mash them with a potato masher for a more chunky applesauce.
  • Cool completely and store in fridge or freezer. If you know how to can, this applesauce can be canned as well.

Notes

If adding fruit or vegetables to the applesauce, add about 2 cups.
