Homemade Chocolate Pudding

A classic chocolate dessert is what this Homemade Chocolate Pudding is! Rich, creamy and a cinch to make! Great for a make ahead option and a favorite with the kids.
Course: Dessert, Snack
Total Time: 3 hours
Servings: 6
Author: Heather

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups milk, I prefer 2% cows milk
  • ¼ cup milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a medium size saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, and milk.
  • Over medium heat, not any higher, bring mix to a boil constantly whisking. About 10 minutes.
  • Boil for 1 minute and test pudding with metal spoon. If the pudding coats the spoon without showing any of the spoon through the pudding, remove from heat.
  • Whisk in chocolate chips, butter and vanilla until smooth.
  • Put pudding in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Push the plastic wrap down to the surface of the pudding.
  • Chill pudding for 2-4 hours before serving.
